The Pharisees emphasized the outward, and neglected the inward, but Jesus told them that He who made the outside made the inside also. Then Jesus said,

“But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you” (Luke 11.41). 

Be a giver, not a taker. Show that the inward means more to you than the outward by detaching the outward from you.
