Jeroboam built some cities, but he also promoted idolatry

It seems that kings have a tendency to have building projects, as did Jeroboam, the first king of the Northern Kingdom of Israel,

Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and dwelt there. Also he went out from there and built Penuel (1 Kings 12.25).

Unfortunately, the rest of the story shows another building project of Jeroboam’s, that of the construction of golden calves and places to worship them, and that began the downfall of the Northern Kingdom.

Questions:

  • What kind of projects do you do?
  • Do you finish your projects?
  • Do your projects honor God?
