05.08.2017 – New Testament: John 1.47–49
To read the Bible in a year, read John 1.29–51 on May 8, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Jesus spoke to others about one of His future apostles as though Jesus knew the man before they ever met. The man picked up on the words and tone of Jesus,
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” (John 1.47–49).
Nathanael had been alone. He knew it. For Jesus to identify where he had been, even what kind of tree he had been sitting under, and the man who called him to come meet Jesus, Nathanael knew that Jesus had to be divine, for only someone divine could have such abilities.
- Do you believe that the Lord knows you?
- Do you know Him?
