As Jesus spoke with a woman from one of the cities of Samaria, she could tell that He was no ordinary man,

The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship” (John 4.19–20). 

She could tell that He was a prophet (at least), and she tested Him with a statement about the location of worship: Was it Samaria or Jerusalem?

She was about to hear something that she never would have guessed that she would learn that day.
