With a fighting force of 800,000, King Jeroboam led Israel against King Abijah and Judah with a fighting force of 400,000. However, Israel lost 500,000 in the battle, because they had forsaken the Lord and Judah won because they remained faithful to Him. Second Chronicles then summarizes the reign of Abijah,
But Abijah grew mighty, married fourteen wives, and begot twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters. Now the rest of the acts of Abijah, his ways, and his sayings are written in the annals of the prophet Iddo (2 Chronicles 13.21–22).
He grew in might and he developed a large family. However, we do not remember him as we do David, because the heart of David always remained loyal to the Lord, having never turned away from Him to idols.
