Decimated numbers

Ezra Bible Background

06.12.2017 Old Testament: Ezra 2.64–65

To read the Bible in a year, read Ezra 1–2 on June 12, In the year of our Lord 2017

Israel entered the Land of Canaan from Egyptian bondage with 603,550 warriors, but after the Babylonian captivity, they returned with a much smaller number,

The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty, besides their male and female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred men and women singers (Ezra 2.64–65).

They went from 603,550 to 42,360! Granted numbers mean nothing to the Lord, but He did include these numbers in His word for a reason. The decimation of Israel showed their unfaithfulness, and that was sad. It was good that many had either remained faithful or had turned back to the Faith.
