When the Jewish Council met to conspire to put Jesus to death, Nicodemus made an attempt to defend Jesus, but the rest of the Council quickly shut him down. However, once they had carried out their dastardly deed, Nicodemus did honor Jesus in His death,

And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds (John 19.39). 

That was a lot of stuff! That had to have been expensive. It was the best that Nicodemus could then do.
