Wishing for death

Job Bible Background

06.28.2017 – Old Testament: Job 14.13

To read the Bible in a year, read Job 13–15 on June 28, In the year of our Lord 2017

Sometimes suffering takes us beyond what we believe we can handle, and we wish for death, even as Job did,

“Oh, that You would hide me in the grave,
That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past,
That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me!”
(Job 14.13)

Unfortunately suffering now occupies a place on the Earth after Adam and Eve sinned. How many hearts since then have endured agonies of the body, the mind, the heart, and the spirit? Perhaps you have been where Job was. Remember that he did not take his life, although he wanted to die.

He waited for God and eventually the God of heaven heard the man on Earth and saved him.

Questions:

  • How have you endured your suffering?
  • What is the key to conquering suffering?
