Listen to the whole counsel of God

Acts Bible Background

07.18.2017 – New Testament: Acts 20.26–27

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 20.17–38 on July 18, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

Paul knew only one way to present the truth of God, and that was in a balanced way. He did not merely speak on the goodness of God and leave off the wrath of God, nor did he merely speak on the wrath of God and leave off the goodness of God, but Paul presented a balanced view of both. He reminded the elders of the Ephesian Church that he operated in this manner,

“Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20.26–27).

Every preacher and teacher should have the same goal of declaring the whole counsel of God for the same reason, to be innocent of the blood of all men.

Do you want to hear the whole counsel of God?

Questions:

  • Do you refuse to hear certain parts of the word of God?
  • Do you believe Christians should know the Old Testament?
