Tell God that you are afraid

Psalms Bible Background

07.28.2017 – Old Testament: Psa 55.4–8

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 53–55 on July 28, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

Do you have fears? Did you know that you can speak to the Lord of your fears? David, a man we do not normally associate with fear, spoke to the Lord of his fears,

My heart is severely pained within me,
And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.
Fearfulness and trembling have come upon me,
And horror has overwhelmed me.
So I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!
I would fly away and be at rest.
Indeed, I would wander far off,
And remain in the wilderness.
Selah
I would hasten my escape
From the windy storm and tempest.”
(Psalm 55.4–8)

The Holy Spirit included Psalm 55 that we might see how David, a brave and mighty warrior before God, sometimes felt. If David had fears and spoke of his fears to our Creator, why can’t we do the same?

Questions:

  • What are your fears?
  • How often do you speak to the Lord of your fears?
