Where God is known, He defeats His enemies

Psalms Bible Background

08.05.2017 – Old Testament: Psa 76.1–3

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 75–77 on August 5, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

Look at the history of Judah, especially Jerusalem, in the Old Testament! They had constant ups and downs, all based on their faithfulness or lack thereof. When they followed the Lord, they did well; when they forsook Him, they did not do well. Concerning the times when they did well, the Bible says,

In Judah God is known;
His name is great in Israel.
In Salem also is His tabernacle,
And His dwelling place in Zion.
There He broke the arrows of the bow,
The shield and sword of battle.
Selah
(Psalm 76.1–3)

When Judah proclaimed the name of God in sincerity and in truth, no one could stand against the nation, because God would disable the enemy.

May the church continue to do the same, even if our communities no longer do it, let the church continue, and we shall see what He shall do to those who oppose us.

Questions:

  • Do you speak the name of the Lord?
  • Who gets the honor in your life?
