08.22.2017 – Old Testament: Psa 119.65–72
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 119.49–104 on August 22, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
The psalmist could see that the Lord had treated him well. Therefore, he devoted his life to learning all that he could of God’s word,
You have dealt well with Your servant,
O LORD, according to Your word.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
For I believe Your commandments.
Before I was afflicted I went astray,
But now I keep Your word.
You are good, and do good;
Teach me Your statutes.
The proud have forged a lie against me,
But I will keep Your precepts with my whole heart.
Their heart is as fat as grease,
But I delight in Your law.
It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
That I may learn Your statutes.
The law of Your mouth is better to me
Than thousands of coins of gold and silver.
The psalmist knew that he had drifted away from the word at times, but when he suffered, it brought him back to the word. Therefore, he wanted the Lord to teach him judgment and knowledge. On his part, he would keep the Lord’s precepts with all his heart, delighting in the word, treasuring it more than anything.
- How high do you value the word of God?
- How determined are you to do what God says?
