10.14.2017 – New Testament: 1Th 2.14
To read the Bible in a year, read First Thessalonians 2 on October 14, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
The first-century church in Thessalonica imitated the churches in Judea in a way that they may not have expected, especially because they did not plan to do it,
For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus. For you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, just as they did from the Judeans… (1 Thessalonians 2.14).
The Jews who converted to Christ suffered from their local brethren, and the Thessalonians who converted to Christ suffered from their fellow-citizens. Shall we be as the church in the first century? Do we need to restore the church in all phases? If so, let us gladly receive persecution.
Questions:
- Are you willing to suffer for Christ?
- Have you avoided it in the past?
