11.24.2017 – New Testament: 1Pe 1.22–23
To read the Bible in a year, read First Peter 1 on November 24, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Yes, we sought salvation to save our souls, but Peter wrote that our salvation is now more than just about our own salvation,
Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever… (1 Peter 1.22–23).
Love for self—moved us to save ourselves, but having seen the truth of Christ, we should also be moved to love our new brethren in the church. Salvation is not just about us, it has brought us into a new family and we have to embrace that family if we want God to embrace us.
- Do you love all the people of your home congregation?
- Are you a member of a church?
- If not, why not?
