Some people do not like to be corrected

Amos Bible Background

12.15.2017 – Old Testament: Amos 5.10

To read the Bible in a year, read Amos 4–6 on December 15, In the year of our Lord 2017

By Don Ruhl

You can show some people what the Bible says about their behavior or you can in gentleness, compassion, and patience talk to them, but they will not hear you for this reason,

They hate the one who rebukes in the gate,
And they abhor the one who speaks uprightly.
(Amos 5.10)

You see what they need to do. You show them the logic, but they have blinded their eyes. They do not want to see the truth, nor do they want to hear it. If you try to correct them, they will hate you for it. This does not mean you should not do it, but just prepare yourself for the hatred. If you do it and they reject it, you should not speak with them anymore, for they will only bite you.

Questions:

  • How do you respond to someone who rebukes you?
  • How do you respond when you hear the truth?
