By Don Ruhl
John saw a wonderful woman who was with child, and this woman represented God’s people, initially ancient Israel and then the church. Then John saw something else,
And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born (Revelation 12.3–4).
The heads, horns, and diadems show that the devil was using Rome, and he stood ready to destroy the child as soon as it was born. However, the rest of the narrative shows that both the woman and the child got away, but the dragon went after the followers of Jesus Christ.
