12.26.2017 – Old Testament: Zec 2.8–9
To read the Bible in a year, read Zechariah 1–3 on December 26, In the year of our Lord 2017
By Don Ruhl
Zechariah prophesied of how the Lord would react when people harm His people. First, He wanted Zechariah’s generation to know that the Lord was with them as they rebuilt the temple and that He would fight their enemies. However, the prophet also spoke of the Messiah and His work,
For thus says the LORD of hosts: “He sent Me after glory, to the nations which plunder you; for he who touches you touches the apple of His eye. For surely I will shake My hand against them, and they shall become spoil for their servants. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me” (Zechariah 2.8–9).
Would you go up to God Himself and poke Him in the eye? Why then harm His people, for He considers it equal to poking Him in the eye. The Messiah would come to plunder the nations by taking from them followers.
