By Don Ruhl
The hometown of Jesus knew Him as a carpenter and nothing more. Yet, when He turned out to be something far greater, they could not accept it,
Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, that He departed from there. When He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, “Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?” (Matthew 13.53–56).
They watched the Son of God grow up among them, and they did not know it! However, instead of examining what He did and what He taught, they rejected Him.
- What do you do when someone you knew before turns out to be someone great?
- How do you think you would have reacted to Jesus growing up around you?
