01.23.2018 – New Testament: Matt 16.21
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 16 on January 23, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Jesus could not have made Himself plainer when He began to prepare the twelve disciples for what was coming,
From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day (Matthew 16.21).
There it was in simple language. Jesus had to go to a place, Jerusalem, where the elders, chief priests, and scribes would make Him suffer, put Him to death, but He would rise from the dead.
- What would you have thought if the greatest teacher you had ever known said those words to you?
- How or why was it that the Jewish leaders did not recognize the Messiah when He arrived?
