The light of the tabernacle

Exodus Bible Background

01.31.2018 – Old Testament: Exo 25.37–40

To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 25–26 on January 31, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

The Lord described how He wanted the tabernacle and its furniture made, and He also gave Moses a pattern, perhaps a drawing of what He wanted. Of the Lampstand, the Lord said,

“You shall make seven lamps for it, and they shall arrange its lamps so that they give light in front of it. And its wick-trimmers and their trays shall be of pure gold. It shall be made of a talent of pure gold, with all these utensils. And see to it that you make them according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain” (Exodus 25.37–40).

That must have been a beautiful lampstand with seven lights on it and the whole thing and its utensils were made of gold! The Lord wanted it to look a certain way, so He showed Moses a pattern.

Light is important to the Lord; He created it after creating the heavens and the earth. Jesus said that we are light.

  • Do you see yourself as light in this dark world?
  • How can you function as light to our generation?
