02.07.2018 – Old Testament: Lev 3.6
To read the Bible in a year, read Leviticus 1–3 on February 7, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
The children of Israel had several options for making offerings to the Lord, including what He called a peace offering. If an Israelite chose to make that offering, it had to be without blemish,
“If his offering as a sacrifice of a peace offering to the LORD is of the flock, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish” (Leviticus 3.6).
This prefigured what God would do when He made Jesus, the Lamb of God, an offering that we might have peace. For Jesus to fill that role, He had to be perfect, having never sinned. Therefore, if the Israelite used a lamb, its body had to be perfect even as the soul of Jesus would be perfect. Then there could be peace between God and man.
- Why did God choose a lamb to represent His Son?
- How is Jesus lamb-like to you?
