02.17.2018 – New Testament: Mark 1.41–42
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 1.23–45 on February 17, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
A leper approached Jesus, saying that if Jesus was willing, He could cleanse the leper of leprosy. Mark then wrote,
Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.” As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed (Mark 1.41–42).
How long had it been since anyone without leprosy had touched this leper? The text does not say, but when Jesus expressed His willingness to cleanse the leper, He touched the man out of compassion, and suddenly the leprosy was gone.
Questions:
- Do you shake hands with people or make some kind of contact?
- Jesus could have healed this leper without a touch. Why do you think He touched the leper?
