03.03.2018 – New Testament: Mark 9.43–48
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 9.30–50 on March 3, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Jesus had just said that if someone leads astray the children who believe in Him, it would be better for that person to have a millstone hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea, implying that the punishment coming from God is even worse! Then Jesus said,
“If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched…And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off…And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out” (Mark 9.43–48).
Those are extreme measures, but He was illustrating that we must go to whatever extreme is necessary to keep from sinning. Sin will keep us from eternal life and send us to hell. Therefore, cut out of your life whatever causes you to sin.
- Are you willing to make the cuts necessary to keep you from sin?
- What have you cut from your life so far?
