The tribes of Reuben and Gad, and half of the half tribe Manasseh, wanted to inherit on the east side of the Jordan. However, for that to happen, they had to lead the rest of Israel as they battled the people of the Land of Canaan. After they had done what they promised to do, the Bible says,

So Joshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents (Joshua 22.6).

Joshua did not forget the sacrifices that those tribes made and blessed them for it.
