Once you establish yourself or your people in sin, it is difficult—and sometimes impossible—to move away from that foundation. A foundation is like a root, which reaches down and firmly attaches the plant to the earth. So it was with the tribe of Dan and idolatry,

Then the children of Dan set up for themselves the carved image; and Jonathan the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land. So they set up for themselves Micah’s carved image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh (Judges 18.30–31).

Unbelievably Dan just would not break himself away from a false god, although the tribe had seen the mighty and miraculous works of the Lord. Do not let sin take root within you, for you will find it difficult to remove.
