By Don Ruhl
If you lose something, do you go looking for it? Of course you do! We do not acquire things so that we can lose them. Yet, what if we lose a person in the spirit? Jesus ate with the undesirables, those who were lost, but some criticized Him for it. Therefore, He said to them,
“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?” (Luke 15.4).
That makes sense. If I had 100 sheep and lost one, it would be worth it to go looking for the lost one. Since most of us do not have sheep, what about other things that we own, especially if it is about our business? We need that lost item and we will work to recover it.
Jesus owns people. Many have gone astray from Him and He seeks to bring them back, and that is what He was doing when eating with sinners.
- Would you eat with undesirable people?
- Who and how did someone bring you to Christ?
