To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 16.19–31 on April 18, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Why do you think that God has blessed you with all that you have? Is it all about you? Jesus once told of a situation where one man had wealth and another did not,
“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day. But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores” (Luke 16.19–21).
Some people question God’s existence by questioning how He can let people suffer, such as Lazarus in this story. Is it possible that God lets some suffer so that those who do not suffer might be able to help the suffering?
Questions:
- How have you helped the suffering?
- Why do we suffer?
