04.25.2018 – New Testament: Luke 20.21–22
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 20.1–26 on April 25, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
The chief priests and scribes tried to figure out a way to use the words of Jesus against Him that the leaders might condemn Him to death. Imagine trying to trick the Creator into fumbling on His words! Anyway, watch what they did,
Then they asked Him, saying, “Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show personal favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth: Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” (Luke 20.21–22).
They did not want to pay taxes to the government, so they hoped that by gaining His favor with their compliment, He might do as they wanted and if not, they would have a reason for condemning Him. However, it did not work, as you will discover when you read the rest of the story.
- What do you think about paying taxes?
- What do you do with someone who teaches the way of God in truth?
