Assuming you know the answer

John Bible Background

05.22.2018 – New Testament: John 8.21–22

To read the Bible in a year, read John 8.21–36 on May 22, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

The Jews heard Jesus say that He was going away and they made an assumption about His statement which had no basis in truth:

Then Jesus said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.” So the Jews said, “Will He kill Himself, because He says, ‘Where I go you cannot come’?” (John 8.21–22).

He just said that He was going away and that although they would seek Him, they could not come. He said that they would die in their sin. Somehow they concluded that He would kill Himself!

Be sure you have all the facts before you start making assumptions and then telling others what you have concluded.

Questions:

  • Do you know to what Jesus referred?
  • Are you seeking Jesus?
