06.26.2018 – Old Testament: Job 8.5–7
To read the Bible in a year, read Job 7–9 on June 26, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Job’s life centered around God. Yet, when Job suffered, at least one of his friends thought that he did not seek God, which is why Bildad said to Job,
“If you would earnestly seek God
And make your supplication to the Almighty,
If you were pure and upright,
Surely now He would awake for you,
And prosper your rightful dwelling place.
Though your beginning was small,
Yet your latter end would increase abundantly.”
Here you can see that Bildad believed that Job was not pure and upright, but had sinned against God, perhaps even going astray from Him. Bildad declared that if Job would seek God, then Job would live in even better prosperity than before. Bildad made some assumptions about Job that were wrong, for loyalty to God does not mean a problem-free life.
- Do you believe that loyalty to God means you will never suffer?
- When you see a Christian suffer, do you assume that he has done something wrong?
