The treasurer of the nation of Ethiopia had been a follower of Judaism. Therefore, he had gone to Jerusalem to worship and on the way home, he read Scripture. That’s right—a governmental official read the Bible, in particular the Book of Isaiah, although he did not understand all that he read:

So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet (Acts 8.27–28).

This man found or made the time to read the Bible while traveling and he found a super blessing for it. Therefore, read Scripture, even if you do not understand it all. When you get a chance to ask someone the meaning of the difficult passage, you may find a blessing.

Questions:

  • Do you understand everything you read in Scripture?
  • Do you ever ask for help in understanding the reading?
