When people are against you

Psalms Bible Background

07.10.2018 – Old Testament: Psa 3.1–3

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 1–3 on July 10, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

From everything the Scriptures reveal about David, we do not know why people would be against him, but he had plenty of enemies:

LORD, how they have increased who trouble me!
Many are they who rise up against me.
Many are they who say of me,
“There is no help for him in God.”
Selah
But You, O LORD, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
(Psalm 3.1–3)

Those who had arisen against David, claimed that God would not help him, but look at what David did. He immediately spoke to God, telling Him what he was to David.

Even if the people against you do not say that God will not help you, still tell Him what He is to you in contrast to your critics.

Questions:

  • Is God truly your first thought?
  • Do you think of God when people criticize you?
