Remember the Israelites in the wilderness

1 Corinthians Bible Background

08.29.2018 – New Testament: 1Co 10.11–12

To read the Bible in a year, read First Corinthians 10.1–13 on August 29, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

Paul reminded the Corinthian Christians of the Israelites during their wilderness wanderings when they sinned against God and how He dealt with them for their sin. The apostle then wrote:

Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall (1 Corinthians 10.11–12).

Read the Old Testament Scriptures and learn from the examples of the Israelites and learn how God deals with sin. He loved Israel, but when they sinned, He punished them. Therefore, do not think that the same thing cannot happen to you.

Questions:

  • What have you learned from Israel?
  • Do you believe in Once-Saved-Always-Saved?
  • If so, how do you explain Paul’s warning?
