A day when a man looks to His Maker

Isaiah Bible Background

09.29.2018 – Old Testament: Isa 17.7–8

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 16–18 on September 29, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

The Lord announced a time when He would overthrow Damascus, Israel, and the nations, but He also announced through Isaiah that something else wonderful would happen:

In that day a man will look to his Maker,
And his eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel.
He will not look to the altars,
The work of his hands;
He will not respect what his fingers have made,
Nor the wooden images nor the incense altars.
(Isaiah 17.7–8)

Too bad that people finally turn to their Maker when they see or experience suffering, but sometimes that is just what it takes.

Questions:

  • What did it take to turn you to the Lord?
  • Do you have respect for the Holy One of Israel?
