Have you seen the different ways that people try to escape death? I am not talking about the normal things we do to live a long life, but the crazy religious ideas or the superstitious things people invent to avoid death. Have you noticed that it does not work. The Lord knows about their wild imaginations:
Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men,
Who rule this people who are in Jerusalem,
Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death,
And with Sheol we are in agreement.
When the overflowing scourge passes through,
It will not come to us,
For we have made lies our refuge,
And under falsehood we have hidden ourselves.”
(Isaiah 28.14–15)
He knew of their scheming and He knew that they would utterly fail. We cannot make a covenant with death because we do not hold the keys of Hades and of Death, but the Lord Jesus Christ does (Revelation 1.18).
