Be careful in whom you trust

Isaiah Bible Background

10.04.2018 – Old Testament: Isa 30.3–5

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 29–30 on October 4, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

We trust in many things in life to help us make it through the struggles we face. However, all those things shall eventually fail us, unless it is God in whom we trust. Israel trusted in Egypt and found out that did not work:

“Therefore the strength of Pharaoh
Shall be your shame,
And trust in the shadow of Egypt
Shall be your humiliation.
For his princes were at Zoan,
And his ambassadors came to Hanes.
They were all ashamed of a people who could not benefit them,
Or be help or benefit,
But a shame and also a reproach.”
(Isaiah 30.3–5)

It is not that it just did not work to trust in Egypt, but it turned to humiliate Israel for turning away from the Lord and turning to mere men.

Questions:

  • In what have you trusted before other than God?
  • Have you noticed that you can always count on God?
