10.07.2018 – Old Testament: Isa 38.1–2
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 37–38 on October 7, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
Isaiah told Hezekiah dreaded words that none of us want to hear, but sooner or later most of us will hear similar words:
In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, “Thus says the LORD: ‘Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the LORD… (Isaiah 38.1–2).
Picture yourself in that situation. Someone has just told you that you are going to die, not in the sense that we will all die someday, but that you are about to die any day. What would you do? What did Hezekiah do?
Questions:
- What do you typically do now when you hear bad news?
- Why is that your first reaction?
