The Day of Christ had not and has not yet come

2 Thessalonians Bible Background

10.19.2018 – New Testament: 2Th 2.1–2

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Thessalonians 2 on October 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2018

By Don Ruhl

In his first letter to the Thessalonian church, Paul had made many references to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. Some of the members there started to wonder whether Jesus had returned, hence whether they had missed it. Therefore, Paul wrote to them:

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come (2 Thessalonians 2.1–2).

He went on to write that two events had to happen first, and they already have happened now. Jesus still has not returned, but now He could return whenever the Father wants to send Him.

  • What two events did Paul say had to happen first?
  • Are you prepared for the Second Coming?
