You know about circumcision of the flesh, but the Lord also expected people in Israel to circumcise themselves; not perform the surgery themselves, but to cut away from themselves whatever kept them from serving the Lord properly:

For thus says the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem: “Break up your fallow ground, and do not sow among thorns. Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your hearts, you men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest My fury come forth like fire, and burn so that no one can quench it, because of the evil of your doings” (Jeremiah 4.3–4).

The Lord expected a spiritual circumcision, a circumcision of the heart, for that is the seat of our lives. Whatever we do and whatever we are, begins in the heart. Therefore, we have to remove all that is offensive from our lives for the Lord.

Questions:

  • Do you investigate yourself spiritually?
  • Do you let the word of God enter into your heart that it might find and remove all that offends God?
