Judah was beaten up badly

Jeremiah Bible Background

11.02.2018 – Old Testament: Jer 34.6–7

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 33–35 on November 2, In the year of our Lord Christ 2018

By Don Ruhl

The Lord used Jeremiah repeatedly to speak to Judah, Jerusalem, and the king of Judah, but none of them would listen to the messages of repentance and the promise of doom for not repenting. Listen to this passage as it describes what was left of Judah, and yet the king still would not listen to Jeremiah:

Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem, when the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem and all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and Azekah; for only these fortified cities remained of the cities of Judah (Jeremiah 34.6–7).

Judah had been reduced to almost nothing, which fulfilled the words of Jeremiah, but astonishingly the king refused to heed the message.

Questions:

  • Are you stubborn?
  • If you are not sure, is there something in the word of God that you refuse to acknowledge or to believe or to obey?
