Think of all that God has done to turn us to Him from our sinful lives. However, if after having experienced His wonders we turn back to our sinful lives, then what else could God do to persuade us that we need to come back? As He had the writer of the Book of Hebrews say:
For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame (Hebrews 6.4–6).
If after being enlightened, if after tasting the heavenly gift, if after partaking of the Holy Spirit, if after tasting the word of God, and if after tasting the powers of the age to come, a Christian then falls away, they just cannot be renewed again to repentance. What else would that Christian want God to do? If that person turns back to God, it will be because that person saw those gifts again and wanted to go back.
- What keeps you faithful to God?
- Have you fallen away before?
- If so, what brought you back?
