Jesus came to preach and to teach. However, He had to do something to cause people to want to listen to Him. Therefore, He did miracles and those miracles also confirmed that the message He spoke came from heaven just as much as the miracles did. Unfortunately, some people saw Him only for what He could do for their bodies. Therefore, He told some not to spread the news of what He had done:

And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.” However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction” (Mark 1.43–45).

People thronged Him, hoping for a miracle in their own lives or in the life of a family member or friend. It got so bad, that He could not even enter cities.
