To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 11–13 on February 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
The Lord brought several million people out of Egypt and across a wilderness to the Land of Canaan. When He fed them on one occasion with quail, look at how much He provided:
Now a wind went out from the LORD, and it brought quail from the sea and left them fluttering near the camp, about a day’s journey on this side and about a day’s journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits above the surface of the ground. And the people stayed up all that day, all night, and all the next day, and gathered the quail (he who gathered least gathered ten homers); and they spread them out for themselves all around the camp (Numbers 11.31–32).
Picture what Moses wrote. The quail settled on the ground around the camp of Israel in distance about as far as you could walk in a day and they were two cubits deep, and if the cubit was 18 inches, that means they were three feet deep! Everyone gathered different amounts, but the one who gathered the least filled up ten homers. One homer equals 6.24 American bushels, times 10, so the one who gathered least gathered 62.40 bushels. One bushel equals 1.24 cubic feet! That means the Israelite who picked up the smallest amount had 77.376 cubic feet of quail!
