Oppressed and crushed continually

Deuteronomy Bible Background

03.16.2019 – Old Testament: Deu 28.33

To read the Bible in a year, read Deuteronomy 28 on March 16, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

By Don Ruhl

The Lord let Israel know plainly how they would suffer for turning their backs on Him. Part of what He said was this:

“A nation whom you have not known shall eat the fruit of your land and the produce of your labor, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually” (Deuteronomy 28.33).

Who would want that to come upon their nation? Israel must have thought in later generations that the curses for disobedience would not happen. Yet, what does history tell us? The Lord did just as He said He would do.

Questions:

  • Do people today think that the Lord will not keep His promises of the future Judgment?
  • What do you think about the Day of Judgment?
