Jesus had gone away and upon His return, people greeted Him,

So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him.

– Luke 8.40

The same thing is going on today. Jesus has gone away and He has been gone since about AD 30, but we know that He shall return and so we wait for His appearing.
