04.07.2019 – New Testament: Luke 11.20–22
To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 11.1–28 on April 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Jesus cast demons out of people, but His critics said that He used the power of Satan to cast out those demons. After offering a couple of arguments against their false charge, Jesus said:
“But if I cast out demons with the finger of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace. But when a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his armor in which he trusted, and divides his spoils”
– Luke 11.20–22
Jesus explained that His ability to cast demons out of people was proof that the kingdom of God had come upon them. Then He explained further that what He was doing by casting out demons was casting out the strong man so that He could plunder the strong man’s goods. The strong man was Satan and the goods were the people that Jesus saved by casting demons out of them.
