04.19.2019 – Old Testament: 1Sa 28.15
To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 27–29 on April 19, In the year of our Lord 2019
By Don Ruhl
King Saul quit listening to the Lord, so the Lord quit listening to Saul. However, life went on for Saul and eventually he entered distressing times, and since God would no longer answer Saul, he sought a medium and she brought up Samuel,
Now Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?” And Saul answered, “I am deeply distressed; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may reveal to me what I should do.”
– 1 Samuel 28.15
The fact that Saul would even consider consulting a medium shows that he did not understand his own sin and that he did not understand how God works. Saul needed to repent, seek God’s forgiveness, and then pray to God without ceasing.
When in distress the last thing that we should do is turn to some source other than God, especially if that source is contrary to Him.
