Old Testament: 1Ki 17.2–4
To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 16–18 on May 8, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019
By Don Ruhl
Elijah, by the word of the Lord, had just told King Ahab that the land would not see rain for “these years,” which we learn later meant three and a half years. Knowing such a prophecy would endanger the life of Elijah, the Lord had him hide:
Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
– 1 Kings 17.2–4
Elijah preached as the Lord wanted him to preach, and for such courage, even in the face of a brutal king, the Lord rewarded Elijah by showing him where to hide and by having ravens bring him food.
We do not always know how the Lord will do it, but He takes care of us.
- As you look back over the years, can you see that the Lord has taken care of you, especially as you have looked after His things?
- How do we persuade the world of this truth?
