To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 47–49 on July 26, In the year of our Lord Christ 2019

By Don Ruhl

Psalm 49 begins by urging everyone to hear the words of wisdom in this Psalm, which addresses the issue of wealth. Once the psalmist has introduced the necessity of listening to what he has to say, he began with his advice, saying:

Why should I fear in the days of evil,
When the iniquity at my heels surrounds me?

– Psalm 49.5

When iniquity surrounds us, we might be tempted to trust in our riches, but the psalmist showed why that does not work. He revealed many thoughts worthy of our attention on the matter of wealth.

Do not fear during the days of evil, because iniquity shall not conquer you as long as you remember who gives wealth and who takes it away.
