08.21.2019 – Old Testament: Psa 119.17–24
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 119.1–48 on August 21, In the year of our Lord 2019
By Don Ruhl
How magnificent is the word of God! You believe that it is. You read these devotionals, which shows your belief in the power of God’s word. Listen to the psalmist,
Deal bountifully with Your servant,
That I may live and keep Your word.
Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.
I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.
My soul breaks with longing
For Your judgments at all times.
You rebuke the proud—the cursed,
Who stray from Your commandments.
Remove from me reproach and contempt,
For I have kept Your testimonies.
Princes also sit and speak against me,
But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.
Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.
– Psalm 119.17–24
The psalmist wanted to live that he might see wonderful things from the Lord’s law. Therefore, the psalmist did not want the Lord to hide His word, because the psalmist longed for the judgments of God. Although princes, reproached the psalmist, he had determined to meditate on the word of God, because he delighted in God’s testimonies, and they became his counselors.
- What do you think of the word of God?
- Do you see it as your counselor?
